Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, refused to comment on decision of the Saeima in relation to Andrejs Judins. It is the decision of the Saeima, and the Supreme Court assumes it for its cognizance.
Andrejs Judins was invited to the Supreme Court as a representative of academic environment, doctor of law in field of criminal law. The Supreme Court has cooperated with A.Judins as with case-law researcher for many years, he was lecturer at judicial training seminars both in the Supreme Court and the Latvian Judicial Training Centre. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court indicates that A.Judins orients himself in problems of Latvian justice and in case-law development very well, that’s why he was invited as the judge to the Supreme Court.
Pavels Gruzins, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, also indicates that Andrejs Judins is young and prospective lawyer, very good theoretician in field of criminal law, whose knowledge was used by the Supreme Court already, when developing case-law.
