On September 12, the Saeima (the Parliament) adopted decision to award former senators of the Supreme Court – Rolands Krauze, Roberts Guntis Namatevs, Rita Saulite and Valda Eilande – with the title of the Judge Emeritus.
Title of the Judge Emeritus is also granted to Inara Steinerte, the former judge of Riga regional court.
Pursuant to Section 66 of the law “On Judicial Power”, the Saeima, upon proposal of the Board of Justice, may grant the title of the Judge Emeritus to the judge, who had worked decently and had eliminated judge’s career. The Board of Justice adopted decision about granting of the title of Judge Emeritus to former senators Krauze, Namatevs, Saulite and Eilande upon proposal of senators of the Supreme Court – Andris Gulans and Janis Neimanis.
Rolands Krauze had fulfilled duties of a judge of the Supreme Court between 1994 and 2005, Roberts Guntis Namatevs – between 1976 and 2008, Rita Saulite – between 1985 and 2008, and Valda Eilande – between 1990 and 2009. Krauze, Namatevs and Saulite had been senators in the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, but Eilande – in the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate.
Previously, the title of the Judge Emeritus was granted to five former senators, inter alia, to Aiva Zarina and Pavels Gruzins - former judges of the Supreme Court.
