The Ministry of Justice has already informed that on the eve of the 90th anniversary of the State of Latvia and the judiciary, this year for the first time 49 employees of judiciary will be awarded with the Marks of Distinction of the judiciary.

The award will be presented to 16 former and present Supreme Court judges. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics is satisfied for the assessment of the work of the Supreme Court judges and their contribution to the development of the judiciary.

The 1st grade Mark of Distinction will be presented to the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the independent Latvia Gvido Zemribo, the former senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Imants Fridrihsons, the former senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, at present – the consultant of the Division of Complaints Gunta Visnakova, as well as the Deputies of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court – the Chairman of the Chamber of Civil Cases Gunars Aigars and the Chairman of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Pavels Gruzins, and the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Kalvis Torgans.

The 2nd grade Mark of Distinction will be presented to the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, at present – the senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate Andris Gulans, the senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Valda Eilande and the Chairman of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Valerijans Jonikans.

The 3rd grade Mark of Distinction will be presented to the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases Aiva Zarina, the judges of the Chamber of Criminal Cases Ausma Keisa and Eduards Pupovs, the former senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Rita Saulite, the former senators of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Fricis Jaunbelzejs and Georgijs Kuznecovs, and the former judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases Leontine Pluksna.

In accordance with the regulations on the award establishment, the 1st grade Mark of Distinction of Judiciary is awarded for outstanding lifetime contribution to the development of the Latvian judiciary, strengthening of democracy and rule of law in Latvia and in the world. The 2nd grade Mark of Distinction is awarded for especially significant contribution or achievement in the development of judiciary, strengthening of democracy and rule of law, especially significant scientific achievements in the field of law, especially significant contribution in the development and implementation of the policy of judiciary, the development of international relations, the development of case law and promotion of professionalism and knowledge of the officials of judiciary. The 3rd grade Mark of Distinction is awarded for exemplary, honest and creative fulfillment of duties.

The awards will be presented during the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the judiciary which will take place on Friday, November 7, in the Dailes Theater.
