Today, on the 16th of December, the Saeima approved Daina Treija and Vesma Kakste in the post of a judge of the Supreme Court. 86 parliamentarians voted for Daina Treija, nobody voted against or refrained from voting; however, 88 parliamentarians voted for Vesma Kakste, and one parliamentarian refrained from voting.
Vesma Kakste, the judge of the Administrative regional court, has already executed duties of a senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate in absence of senators as from August, 2008, with interval of several months.
Vesma Kakste was born in 1969. She has got Master of Law and the second judicial qualification class.
Daina Treija, the ex-judge of Riga regional court, due to insufficient number of judges of the Supreme Court has already executed duties of a judge in the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court as from this March. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court had instructed Daina Treija to replace vacancy of a judge in the Supreme Court for a term not exceeding two years.
Daina Treija was born in 1964. She has got Master of Law and the second judicial qualification class.
Vesma Kakste will continue work of the senator in the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, and Daina Treija will be the judge in the Chamber of Criminal Cases.
