The Council for the Judiciary decided to convene Latvian Judges’ Conference on November 3 this year and set the theme for the conference – the independence of judges.

Ivars Bickovics, Chair of the Council for the Judiciary, substantiated the topicality of the theme on the results on the survey carried out by the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary on the independence of judges, which reiterates that the self-assessment of Latvian judges on their independence is the lowest of all European countries.

The Council for the Judiciary adopted the decision in the sitting of 11 September 2017. See information about all issues reviewed at the sitting here.
