Continuing the work with amendments to the Law "On Judicial Power", the Council for the Judiciary, at the request of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Saeima (Parliament), discussed several proposals for a draft law submitted before the third reading in the Saeima. Among them, is an issue on increase of competence of the general meeting of judges of departments of the Supreme Court regarding the selection of candidates for the position of a judge of the Supreme Court.

The Council for the Judiciary, in co-ordination with the Ministry of Justice, also specified the time when the determination of the operation area of district (city) courts, their courthouses and land registry offices would be incorporated within the sphere of competence of the Council for the Judiciary. This is expected after the completion of the ongoing judicial territorial reform on 1 April 2018.

The Council for the Judiciary adopted the decision in the sitting of 11 September 2017. See information about all issues reviewed at the sitting here.
