7 September, 2017
On Monday, September 11, the Council for the Judiciary will discuss the State Audit Office’s audit report "Have judicial development measures contributed to the efficiency of the judiciary?". The State Audit Office assessed whether the measures implemented by the Ministry of Justice to improve the efficiency of the judicial system in 2009-2015 have been successful and the problems existing in the judicial system of Latvia have been eliminated. According to the assessment of the Ministry of Justice, 87.5% of the plan has been fulfilled, but the performance indicators have reached only 47%. In view of the State Audit Office, greater progress should be made regarding such important aspects as length of the proceedings and the workload of judges, the efficient human resources planning and development.
Following the invitation of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Saeima, the Council for the Judiciary will review the planned amendments to the Law "On Judicial Power" as new proposals have been submitted before the third reading, which must be discussed at the Council for the Judiciary.
The Council for the Judiciary will also hear information from the Court Administration on the progress of the European Social Fund project "Justice for Development", and other issues.
The meeting of the Council for the Judiciary will take place on September 11 at the Supreme Court, Room 244, starting at 13.00.
