Aivars Keiss confirmed in the position of the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court

On Friday, February 9, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court confirmed Aivars Keiss in the position of the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court.
Aivars Keiss, previous acting Deputy Chairman of the Zemgales Regional Court, was confirmed in the position of a judge of the Supreme Court by the Saeima (Parliament) on February 1. Before it, an approval was expressed by the Judicial Qualification Panel, a positive reference – by the Chairman of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court Martins Dudelis.
There was a vacant position of a judge in the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court, and A. Keiss was confirmed in it. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Andris Gulans presented the new judge the symbolic hammer of a judge of the Supreme Court, but the colleagues expressed satisfaction that their ranks are increased by a person of versatile living and working experience.
A. Keiss was born in 1959. In 1986 he graduated from the Latvia Academy of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry Technology, and started to work as an engineer forester. In 1990 – 1994, he was the Board Chairman of the Baltinava pagasts (rural district), in 1994 he graduated from the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law with the qualification of a lawyer, and started to work in the position of a judge in the Jekabpils District Court. In 1996, in the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law, he finished his master’s course. Since 1997, A. Keiss held the position of the judge of the Zemgales Regional Court, specializing in civil law. Starting from 2005, he also fulfilled the duties of the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Court. In 2006, A. Keiss was conferred the second qualification grade.
