On December 28, 2006 a plenary session of the Supreme Court confirmed Anita Čerņavska as a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases.
On November 24, 2006 the Judicial Qualification Committee reviewed materials of Anita Сernavska and gave approval to confirm her to the Supreme Court and on December 21 she was confirmed by Saeima to the position of the judge in the Supreme court.
Anita Сernavska was born in 1963. She graduated from the University of Latvia in 1988 and received a degree in Jurisprudence.
Mrs. Сernavska worked at the Riga Maskavas District court as a court secretary from 198, than she worked in different private and state enterprises as a lawyer. From 1993 till 1996 worked as a judge for the Riga Kurzemes District Court. In 1996 Anita Сernavska was confirmed to the Riga Regional Court. She worked on civil cases where the Regional Court was the court of first authority as well as on civil appeals.
In 2001 Anita Сernavska was awarded the Judge’s 2nd Qualification Class. Since 1994 she is a member of the Latvian Association of Judges.
Mrs. Сernavska was a participant in seminars organized by the Supreme Court and Court administration for the judges of civil cases. She has been a lecturer at seminars organized by the Latvian Judicial Training Center.
The Supreme Court’s Chair of the Civil Cases Department Martins Dudelis gave a positive evaluation of Anita Сernavska. He stressed that she is highly responsible of procedural norms and does her job of high quality. Court decisions prepared by Mrs. Cernavska have always been well-reasoned and convincing.
According to the Law “On Judicial Power”, after a positive assessment by the Judicial Qualification Committee, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court requests that the Saeima (Parliament) confirm the judge for the position at the Supreme Court. The Plenary Session of the Supreme Court decides the Supreme Court’s division where the new Justice will serve.
