On June 3, a practical training for district court judges was held at the Supreme Court, led by senators Dzintra Balta and Veronika Krūmiņa and judge of Kurzeme Regional Court Linda Vēbere.

The aim of the training is to improve the skills of judges in chairing court hearings in order to fully ensure the right of the participants in the proceedings to a fair trial, and at the same time ensuring the efficiency of the court proceedings. During the training, colleagues shared their experience in conducting court proceedings, as well as analyzed the information available in the public space, which reflects various situations in court proceedings.

The issue of preparing a case for examination and its impact on the quality of court proceedings was raised. When analyzing the communication of a judge with the participants of the proceedings, attention was also paid to the necessity and possibilities of disciplining the participants of the proceedings in case of intentional delay of the court proceedings or abuse of their rights.

The Latvian Judicial Training Centre has organized such a training seminar for already practicing judges upon the recommendation of judges themselves, as these are issues that are relevant both for judges who have started to perform their duties recently and for experienced judges.
