Information for parties to proceedings

Submission of applications and other procedural documents

The documents related to legal proceedings can be submitted in accordance with the procedures specified in the procedural laws:

  • by e-mail at@at.gov.lv (with secure electronic signature)

  • by mail – Brīvības bulvāris 36, Riga, Latvia, LV-1511

  • electronically via an account or mailbox created on the unified state and local government service portal www.latvija.lv: e-address

  • by leaving in the mailbox in the Supreme Court lobby (on working days 8:00–20:00)

  • in person at the Court Registry (Monday - Thursday 8.15–17.00; Fridays 8.15–15.45; pre-holidays 8:15–15:00)

When sending registered mail and insured mail to the Supreme Court, please make sure that the postal services have been paid in full, including the delivery of the mail to the legal address of the Supreme Court.

Information about the progress of the case and the access to case files

The parties to proceedings can follow the progress of their legal proceedings on the website of the Latvian courts’ portal www.elieta.lv in the section My e-Cases.

In order to get acquainted with case files, parties to proceedings have to apply to the Chancellery in advance.

Familiarization with case files is available on weekdays at 8:15–15:00.

Entrance passes

A pass is required to enter the Supreme Court. The employees of the Chancellery register passes for participants to proceedings.

At the Supreme Court, in order to obtain a pass, a visitor has to present an identity document (passport or ID card) at the security desk and to undergo a security check. Persons arriving in court are tested for the presence of weapons, special means and pyrotechnics.

Receiving a court ruling

If senators sign a ruling with a secure electronic signature and a party to proceedings agrees to use electronic mail for communication with the Supreme Court, an original document is sent electronically to an addressee. A copy of the ruling is not made.

If a ruling is signed with a secure electronic signature, but a party to proceedings has not agreed to use electronic mail to communicate with the Supreme Court, a paper copy of the ruling is prepared and sent to the party.

If a ruling is prepared on paper and signed by hand, a copy of the ruling is sent to parties to proceedings.
