The Latvian Law Institute, as part of its guest lecture programme of foreign academicians, will be hosting a guest lecture by Mihnea Constantinescu, PhD (Finance), a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, who will speak on machine learning and artificial intelligence, as well as on economic and legal challenges created thereof,
The guest lecture will be held on Friday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gold Hall of the Riga Latvian Society House. Participation in the guest lecture is free of charge. The language of the event is English.

About Mihnea Constantinescu
Mihnea Constantinescu is a lecturer in finance at the University of Amsterdam, as well as an advisor to the National Bank of Moldova. Previously worked as an advisor at the National Bank of Ukraine and the Bank of Lithuania.
Mihnea Constantinescu has specialized in various financial and economic matters, on which he has created an extensive amount of academic publications. One of the areas of his particular interest is artificial intelligence and machine learning, which will also be the topic of his guest lecture.
The lecture will be focused on an in-depth analysis of digitization, machine learning and artificial intelligence, their evolution, application, impact on various aspects of society and industries, related economic and legal challenges and legislators' response to these processes, paying special attention to the financial field. The latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence, such as large language models and the application of these advanced technologies in various fields, will be analyzed. The main focus will be on ensuring a balance for taking full advantage of digitization and artificial intelligence while mitigating potential risks and ensuring legal compliance.

The event is organized by the Latvian Law Institute as part of its guest lecture programme of foreign academicians with the support of the Supreme Court of Latvia, the Latvian Association of Sworn Advocates, the journal “Jurista Vārds”, the Competition Council, the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, the European Union Law Association and several law firms.
