On October 25, the Saeima (Parliament), by adopting amendments to the Law "On Judicial Power", decided that in the future the Supreme Court could also be called “The Senate” and justices – senators.
These amendments restore the historical name of the court of cassation, stating that the Senate consists of the Department of Administrative Cases, the Department of Civil Cases and the Department of Criminal Cases. There are no amendments to procedural laws envisaged.
Still other amendments have been made to the Law "On Judicial Power", which specify the functions of the Supreme Court.
