On Monday, October 6, representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Maria Canedo and Connor Hogg visited the Supreme Court to speak with senators and to discuss the Senate's practice in competition law cases. The competition law experts were welcomed by Senators Rudīte Vīduša, Laura Konošonoka and Ermīns Darapoļskis from the Department of Administrative Cases, as well as Senator Zane Pētersone from the Department of Civil Cases.

The purpose of the meeting was to gather the views of Supreme Court judges on how competition law operates in practice within the Latvian legal system for further analysis. The discussion focused on issues such as the role of the Supreme Court in resolving competition law disputes, cooperation between the court and the Competition Council, training for judges on competition law issues, compensation claims for breaches of the competition law, as well as specific court cases were discussed.

The visit of the OECD experts to Latvia shall take place from October 6 to 10, during which they will meet with representatives of the Competition Council, representatives of courts and other state institutions, entrepreneurs, industry associations, and other cooperation partners. Following the analysis, a report will be prepared with recommendations for improving the efficiency of the judicial system and strengthening the legal framework for competition in Latvia.
