The Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate will celebrate 5-years jubilee of administrative courts with conference and other events

The Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate will invite to a conference „Five years of administrative courts and administrative pocedural proceedings in Latvia”, that will take place on March 27, judges of administrative courts of all instances, speciālists of law, students of law and other interested persons. While celebrating 5-years jubilee of enforcing of Administrative Proceeding Law and creating of administrative courts, and the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate among them, another events have been planned in the Supreme Court – lessons of law for pupils and lead of cases for students.
Conference
During the conference, that will take place on March 27 in Big Hallo f University of Latvia, it has been planned to evaluate contribution of administartive courts to a court system of Latvia and conclusions received during five years of activity. On the conference the Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases Veroniak Krumina and senators Jautrite Briede and Janis Neimanis will take the floor with reports. The judge of the Court of European Communities Egils Levits and the judge of the European Court of the Human Rights Ineta Ziemele also promised to participate in the conference. Director of Institute of Public Rights Arvids Dravnieks and doctoral student of University of Latvia Anita Kovalevska, advisor of Law Bureau of Saeima JAnis Pleps, and others will also perform with reports.
Lead of cases for students
Senators of the Department of Administartive Cases Jautrite Briede and Janis Neimanis, who are also teachers in University of Latvia, offered some activity for students – lead of cases among teams of students of law of different high schools. This event is planned to take place in April. .
Lessons of law for pupils
In its turn, schools are offered to apply for law lessons in the Supreme Court in March and April. Senators of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate are ready to tell pupils not only about administrative law, but also about law and court system of Latvia in general. Pupils will have possibility to get acquainted with work of senators and assistants of senators of the Supreme Court. Pupils of 9/th forms are invited to use this possibility, who learn basics of civil studies, but pupils of secondary schools, who are interested, can also apply. Those school bodies, who want to participate in lessons of law, conducted by senators, should register in the Division of Communication by telephone 67020396 or electronically to rasma.zvejniece@at.gov.lv
About the Department of Administrative Cases
February 1, 2004 new Administrative procedure Law came into force, that regulates order of public rightful relationship between state and individual, starting from asessment of Administrative case in the institution till administrative process in court and its execution. In order to provide control of the court in administrative process, established by this law, at the same time administrative courts were formed, and Cassation Court – Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court was among them.
In the end of year 2003 plenum of the Supreme Court testified first senators of the Department of Administrative Cases Valerijans Jonikans and Edite Vernusa, but on February 6, 2004, plenum testified as senators of new department Ilze Skultane, Gunta, Visnakova and Jautrite Briede, as Chairmans of the Department Valerijans Jonikans was elected. At present there are eight senators in the Department of Administrative cases, who fulfill duties of senators. The Chair of the department is Veronika Krumina.
