Name of Egypt was updated in Latvia due to detention of journalist Peteris Greste, double citizen of Latvia and Australia, but the Court of Cassation of Egypt became popular, when it ordered to review the case and released Greste from detention. However, it is not the only case, which could be of mutual interest of courts of both countries, because experience of colleagues is always useful, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Latvia said, when meeting Nabeel A.Sadek, the Vice-president of the Court of Cassation of Egypt.
Nabeel A.Sadekvisited the Supreme Court on 9 June during his visit to Latvia. In conversation with Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Sandra Lapina, the Head of the Administration, discussion concerned issues, which are topical for both countries, namely, opportunities to decrease accumulation of cases, activity of Councils for the Judiciary, and modernisation of courts. Guest from Egypt admitted that extensive use of modern technologies in work of Latvian courts was positive surprise, which is valuable to learn.
The visit of the Vice-president of the Court of Cassation of Egypt to Latvia was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. During the visit, the guest visited Court Administration and Riga city Vidzeme suburb court, and also met Dzintars Rasnacs, the Minister of Justice, and Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
