An overview of the performance of the Supreme Court (Senate) in 2022 is published in the latest issue of the Supreme Court Bulletin. It includes statistics, performance reports of the Senate departments, the Division of Case-law and Research, the Administration and the Disciplinary Court, the summary of the work done and what needs to be done by the President of the Supreme Court, the statements of the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General about the work of the Senate. Legal opinions of the past year are also reviewed.

In the section of legal opinions, there are captivating reflections of Senator Jānis Pleps on judge's role in the development of the country. The article is based on an essay he had submitted in the competition for the position of senator.

At the conference "A decent and diligent landlord during the great upheavals", Aigars Strupišs, the head of the group of authors of the Commercial Law, the President of the Supreme Court, recalled how the Law was created 20 years ago. His report on corporate governance, namely on the responsibility of board and council members in a broader legal and political perspective has also been published.

At the Labour Rights Forum, Senator Dzintra Balta shared the opinions of the Senate on equal and transparent remuneration which can also be read in the Bulletin.

An issue whether the oral proceedings slow down or, on the contrary, speed up the litigation was researched and reported on by Elīna Grigore-Bāra, the Legal Research Counsel. The conclusions are interesting.

What is an actio pauliana claim and how it works in the EU law – this is explained in the article of the Legal Research Counsel Viktorija Soneca "Establishing the jurisdiction according to Regulation No 1215/2012, when bringing an actio pauliana claim". Whereas, the Legal Research Counsel Aleksandra Azeva analyzes data that characterizes the personality and the importance of such data in the criminal proceedings.

Senators and employees have gained valuable knowledge within the framework of international cooperation by receiving guests at the Supreme Court and going on business trips. This issue of the Bulletin tells about the visit of the delegation of the Court of Justice of the European Union to the Supreme Court, about the visit of senators to the European Court of Human Rights and the visits of employees to the Court of Justice of the European Union and the Supreme Court of Norway, as well as presents the lessons learned during other business trips.

In this issue of the Bulletin, a new column "From the other side" is being opened, which will focus on lawyers. There will be conversations with senators and employees of the Supreme Court and their close people who are lawyers too. The first conversation features Jolanta and Aivars Uminskis.

Supreme Court Bulletin is published twice a year. It is received by Latvian courts and other institutions of the judicial system, libraries and law faculties of universities. Issue No 26 of is still being printed at the printing office, but it is already available electronically on the Court's website.
