Guests were enthusiastic to attend the Supreme Court and appreciated this opportunity, as they study both general law and also sociology in conjunction with law. Students and professors also visited the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and an international attorneys’ office, taking a comprehensive insight into the history of Latvia, as well as in specific fields of activity.
At the Supreme Court guests were welcomed by Anita Zikmane, Head of the Division of Case-law and Research, introducing them to the judicial system of Latvia, the structure of the Supreme Court, the work of departments, access to court rulings and the importance of developing a case-law. The young lawyers showed great interest in the court, asking questions about the work of judges, for example, whether the office of a judge could be combined with other occupations and which persons could be appointed as judges.
