On December 5, Supreme Court Senator Jānis Rozenbergs took the oath of office before President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
"I believe that your 20 years of experience and work as an advocate will be an added value to the work of to the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, as it comprises judges with very diverse experience and background of academic work. And it is very important to have someone who has worked in the advocacy and is familiar with the nuances and subtleties of this work. I also believe that your academic experience and the scientific work carried out by you will be a very good addition to the work of the Supreme Court.
The judge's robe, office, and insignia are not light, neither literally nor figuratively. They impose a great responsibility and a great duty on a judge to administer justice fairly and to respect the law, oneself, and parties to proceedings. I am confident that you will succeed," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs at the oath-taking ceremony.
On September 18, the Saeima (parliament) decided to approve Jānis Rozenbergs, Doctor of Laws, for the position of Senator of the Supreme Court, and he commenced his judicial duties at the Supreme Court on December 1.
Jānis Rozenbergs has 20 years of experience as a sworn advocate and six years of experience of academic work at the University of Latvia.
